FAQs

  • What is Handset Payment Option?

Handset Payment Option (HPO) is a program that provides flexibility to upgrade early, and pay your Smartphone over 24 months rather than paying for it all upfront.

  • What are the benefits of Handset Payment Option?

With HPO, you can enjoy the latest technology by upgrading your Smartphone more frequently. Upgrade without additional fees or finance charges and purchase a new Smartphone every 12 months (with qualified handset trade-in) and pay for it monthly. You can also enjoy discounts on GTA’s latest postpaid monthly wireless plans as well.

  • How many HPO handset agreements can I sign up for?

You are able to sign up for a maximum of 4 HPO handset agreements.

  • Do I have to sign a contract?

No contract is necessary for the postpaid plan, but you will have to go on a Handset Agreement. This agreement is different from traditional two year service contracts because you can upgrade after you complete 12 months of the Handset Agreement with qualified trade in with your existing Smartphone. Customers must have and maintain a GTA wireless postpaid service. In the event you cancel your Handset Agreement you will not be charged a penalty fee, but you will have to pay off the remaining balance of your HPO Smartphone in full and your HPO plan discount will be forfeited.

  • Is there a minimum plan requirement for a Smartphone on HPO?

No minimum plan is required just as long you sign up for a plan with voice and data.

  • I am an existing customer on HPO, how can I upgrade?

You can upgrade to a new Smartphone as soon as you complete 12 months of your Handset agreement. Trade-in of your HPO Smartphone must be compliant with the Handset Trade-in program and your account must be in good standing, meaning no past due balances. You may be required to update to our most recent postpaid plans, which still offer you savings.

  • When I trade in my Smartphone after 12 months and get a new one, what’s the length of my new installment plan? Do I have to pay more when I upgrade?

When you trade in your Smartphone, no further installments are billed for the Smartphone you traded in. You will start over with a new 24 month HPO handset agreement on a new Smartphone and there is no upgrade fee.

  • Will I be able to pay off the HPO Smartphone early?

The only time you will be able to pay off your HPO device is when you cancel your handset agreement.

  • Is there warranty for the HPO Smartphones?

Yes, there is a limited one year warranty on all HPO Smartphones.
