There are several factors that can slow down your internet connection. It's important to identify what the issue is and find out what's causing it. Some of these factors are within your control.
For example, your in-home WiFi setup or the devices you're using. Other factors that can cause slow internet are external. These include the location of the server you're connected to, network capability, and outages.
Step 1. Identify the issue. Run a speed test on a couple of different devices. If you are experiencing slow speed on only one device, it's likely that it's the device limiting the speed. If you're connected via WiFi, it could also be that your device is too far away from the modem. Some older devices that have become outdated may be unable to process at higher speeds. This causes them to limit the speed you receive on them.
If the speed is slow on multiple devices, check for WiFi interference or whether there's an outage causing this issue. Simple troubleshooting steps like restarting your modem or gateway may resolve the problem.
Step 2. Run a speed test. There are different ways to run a speed test, with different levels of reliability. Find out how to run a speed test.
Devices that connect over WiFi may not connect at the same speed as advertised on your plan. The device itself can also impact your speed.
Step 3. Contact GTA. By now, you would have run speed tests at different times of the day and have checked your devices and your in-home setup. If you're still experiencing slow internet speeds, please contact GTA for more help.
Solving Internet Issues
1. Restart your Modem/Gateway Devices: Unplug them from the power source, wait 30 seconds, and then plug them back into the power. Wait 5 minutes for the devices to fully initialize. This often resolves connectivity issues.
2. Check Cables and Connections: Ensure all cables are securely connected to your modem/gateway and your devices. Loose or damaged cables can cause disruptions.
3. Test Multiple Devices: Determine if the issue is with one device or all devices. This helps identify whether the problem is with the device or the network.
4. Move Closer to the Wi-Fi Access Points: Wi-Fi signal strength diminishes with distance and obstacles. Test the issue while next to the Wi-Fi equipment to determine if the trouble is due to Wi-Fi coverage. Since homes in Guam are primarily built using concrete, it's recommended to have multiple Wi-Fi access points even for small homes.
