Local companies donate services and goods to Alee Shelter and Victim Advocates Reaching Out
Tamuning (Guam), Wednesday, August 16, 2017- GTA announced today its partnership with Ambros Inc. (Home and Family) to expand on its efforts to assist victims, survivors, and organizations of sexual assault and family violence by making donations of services and goods to benefit Alee Shelter and Victim Advocates Reaching Out (VARO). GTA and Ambros Inc. each have served Guam for over 60 years and have joined forces to increase awareness and empower organizations that make a difference in the lives of victims of sexual assault and family violence.
GTA's commitment to preventing Sexual Assault and Family Violence began in 2015 when GTA launched its Project Rise Campaign in partnership with the Guam Coalition Against Sexual Assault and Family Violence by providing mobile phones and safe wireless lines of communication for victims to stay connected to vital resources in times of need. To expand on these efforts, GTA is donating two laptops along with free high speed internet connectivity to Alee Shelter so the women and their children have the ability to create resumes and do their homework. The laptops and internet assist the shelter's community as they re-establish themselves and gain independence. The Alee Shelter is a receiving home for women and children who are victims of abuse and/neglect.
The local telecommunications company is also helping Victims Advocates Reaching Out (VARO) by donating $1,000 to allow the non-profit group to purchase personal hygiene products needed to help victims who rely on their services. VARO offers victim services such as intervention, advocacy, food, clothing, and transportation.
This year, GTA is pleased to partner with Ambros Inc. who will donate cases of Huggies diapers, baby wipes, and infant formula to support the Project Rise Initiative. The donation will go towards Alee Shelter and VARO to assist families with infants while in transition to finding a safer home.
"GTA understands the importance of supporting local organizations like the Alee Shelter and VARO," said Kamia Dierking, GTA Director of Marketing and Communications. "Both the Alee Shelter and VARO provide critical support services and programs, and to be able to help assure they can continue to provide those services to women and children is something that we all can be proud of. This year, we are thrilled to expand our partnership with Ambros, Inc. with their generous donation of diapers, wipes, and formula."
Cynthia Cabot, Executive Director of the Guam Coalition Against Sexual Assault and Family Violence, says throughout the last couple of years, GTA's Project Rise Initiative has been beneficial for all the non-profit groups falling under the organization's umbrella. She added, "The Guam Coalition is grateful to GTA for Project Rise. We welcome these opportunities for engaging our corporate partners as important lifelines to survivors of sexual assault and family violence."
