Donation to benefit less fortunate families and school children
Tamuning (Guam) Friday, August 7, 2015 – GTA announced today a donation of 250 backpacks and 500 school supply kits to assist Catholic Social Service in distributing much needed supplies to less fortunate school children on Guam in time for the new school year. The local non-profit organization is seeking donations of supplies for students in first through fifth grade.
GTA also encouraged its employees to contribute to the cause by making personal donations of supplies like pens, composition notebooks, scissors, and binders- a few items included on the supply collection list. In 2014, employees within the company collectively contributed several boxes of supplies which benefited over 200 students involved with the CSS program.
Rose Ayuyu Morales, GTA Vice President of Human Resources, says, "During these tough economic times, families struggle to purchase school supplies for their children. By partnering with Catholic Social Service through this supply drive, we feel that it gives students the tools they need for a good education." She added, "We hope we can inspire the community to join us in providing struggling families resources so their kids can excel in school."
Diana Calvo, Catholic Social Service Executive Director, says they are still accepting donations. "Our Annual Back to School Drive caters to the needs of low- income families in the community. Many families are under financial pressure and find it difficult to buy school supplies. This is why we need the community's help. Every donation makes a difference."
Items being accepted include new or gently used backpacks, composition notebooks, filler paper, pencils, pens, erasers, crayons, glue, scissors, uniforms, shoes, binders, folders, and notebooks. Donations can be dropped off at their main office in Barrigada Heights behind the Department of Revenue and Taxation, Monday through Friday, between 8:00am to 4:30pm. To see if you qualify to receive the donations, please contact CSS at 635-1441.
