Collection to benefit less fortunate families and underprivileged school children
Tamuning (Guam) Monday, June 26, 2017 – GTA announced today its partnership with Catholic Social Service to host its Fourth Annual Back-to-School Supply Drive to benefit less fortunate school children on Guam. The drive caters to the needs of low-income families currently under the financial pressure to purchase school supplies for the new school year.
The local telecommunications company is actively accepting donations from the community starting on Monday, June 26th through Thursday, August 3rd. Donations can be dropped off at any of the GTA retail locations and Catholic Social Service in Barrigada Heights.
Kamia Dierking, GTA Director of Marketing and Communications, says, "In preparation for the upcoming school year, we are partnering with Catholic Social Service to host a School Supply Drive to benefit underprivileged children here in Guam. We know the financial challenges our families face when needing to purchase school supplies. Our goal is to provide the basic tools necessary so our students can start the new school year off on the right track."
GTA is also making a monetary donation of $1,500 to CSS so the non-profit group can begin purchasing supplies. In addition, the company is taking an active approach by encouraging its employees to participate.
Rose Ayuyu Morales, GTA Vice President of Human Resources, says, "We continue to support the community we serve so we can make the island a better place to live. Since 2014, we have made the extra effort to provide struggling families with these resources so the kids can excel in school. Each year with our employee drive alone, we collectively contribute several boxes of supplies benefitting over 200 students involved in the CSS program. We invite other companies to join our initiative by making personal donations of supplies to support this cause."
Items being accepted include spiral notebooks, composition notebooks, line paper (loose leaf), #2 pencils, crayons, Elmer's glue, scissors, and hand sanitizers.
Catholic Social Service will be handing out donations to qualified families and students in August. To see whether you qualify as a recipient of the program, residents can call CSS at 635-1441.
