Donations go to Catholic Social Service to help needy families
Tamuning (Guam) Tuesday, June 26, 2018- For the fifth consecutive year, GTA has teamed up with Catholic Social Service (CSS) for its annual Back-to-School Supply Drive to benefit less fortunate school children on Guam. The drive caters to the needs of low-income families currently under the financial pressure to purchase school supplies for the new school year, which typically starts in August. The goal with our outreach projects is to not only support our community but to inspire our employees to give back.
Kamia Dierking, GTA Director of Marketing and Communications, says, "At GTA, we champion the causes that mean the most to our employees at their families - both internally and within the community. When we initiated our first-ever school supply drive in 2013, our goal was to offer students the most basic supplies needed for academic success. Now on its fifth year, we have seen our program grow tremendously, thanks to our employees, partners and those in the community who extended their helping hands to support our cause. As a company that inspires our community in everything by Teaming Up for Good, we continue to live out our core value that one act of good can inspire another."
Starting today through Monday, July 30th, GTA will be accepting supply donations at all retail locations (Upper Upper Tumon, Micronesia Mall, Guam Premier Outlets, Agana Shopping Center, AAFES and NEX). Additional boxes will also be placed at the Catholic Social Service main office in Barrigada Heights.
Diana Calvo, Executive Director of CSS, says, "The start of the new school year often brings excitement and anticipation. But for many families on Guam, however, this time of year also brings added financial stress. By working with companies like GTA who share our goal of assisting needy families, we are able to provide the much needed resources so these students can excel in school."
To help assist more children this year, GTA is also donating 300 backpacks to CSS and is encouraging its employees to give back in the form of personal donations and volunteer hours to help with distribution of supplies to families.
Items being accepted include additional backpacks, spiral notebooks, composition notebooks, line paper (loose leaf), #2 pencils, crayons, Elmer's glue, scissors, and hand sanitizers. Catholic Social Service will be handing out donations to qualified families and students in August. To see whether you qualify as a recipient of the program, residents can call CSS at 635-1441.
